What does poolside landscaping cost in Mallorca?
Planting around a pool is normally added to a wider garden job and runs about €3,500 on a medium Mallorca plot. The surround itself is stonework, so it is priced with the terraces line at €11,500 to €16,500, lighting for the surround at €2,000 to €2,800, and a pergola or shade structure at about €6,000. A pool area rebuilt completely therefore sits well above the planting figure alone.
Key takeaways
- Poolside planting is an addition to a job rather than a job on its own, at about €3,500 for a medium plot.
- The surround surface is where most of the money goes, because it is stonework rather than planting.
- Species choice is driven by litter, splash and bare feet, which rules out several of the obvious Mediterranean favourites.
- Access to the pump and filtration has to survive the design, and it is cheaper to plan than to undo.
What does each part cost?
These are the ranges in the cost guide calculator for a medium garden at a standard finish. Poolside planting and a shade structure are additions, so they are flat amounts rather than ranges.
| Part of the job | Medium garden, standard finish |
|---|---|
| Planting round the pool, added to a job | about €3,500 |
| Surround paving and stonework | €11,500 to €16,500 |
| Lighting for the surround and steps | €2,000 to €2,800 |
| Pergola or shade structure, added to a job | about €6,000 |
| A plan before any of it | €1,000 to €1,400 |
Why is the surround the expensive part?
Because it is a built surface with a fall, a base and an edge, and on Mallorca it also has to stay cool enough to walk on barefoot in August. Pale natural stone and textured reconstituted stone do that. Dark tile and dark porcelain do not, whatever the sample board suggests, and replacing a surround because of it is the most expensive way to learn.
Slip resistance when wet matters just as much, and both of those are decisions you live with every day rather than admire from the terrace.
What does the planting have to survive?
- Splash from chlorinated or salt water on the nearest metre.
- Reflected heat and glare off the water and the paving.
- Bare feet, which rules out agave, yucca and anything else with spines at ankle height.
- A skimmer that has to keep up, which rules out heavy droppers such as pine and bougainvillea close in.
What is left is better than that list suggests. Clipped westringia and myrtle, dwarf olive, oleander at a distance, dietes and lomandra all hold their shape and drop very little. There is a species by species run through in pool surround planting.
What should a quote include?
Surface and coping with a stated material, planting with named species and sizes, irrigation on its own circuit for the pool area, lighting positions, and how access to the pump and filtration is kept. A quote missing the last of those is the one that ends with a plant being dug out in its second season.
How the matching works
We do not build pools or plant gardens. We pass one description to vetted companies working around pools on Mallorca that cover your area, and they quote you directly. Request free quotes and compare what each has allowed for.
How much does planting around a pool cost in Mallorca?
About €3,500 for a medium garden when it is added to a wider job. Rebuilding the surround as well takes it into the terraces and stonework range of €11,500 to €16,500.
Which surround material stays coolest?
Pale natural stone and textured reconstituted stone. Dark tile and dark porcelain get genuinely painful underfoot in August.
Can planting be added around an existing pool?
Yes, and it is one of the most common requests. The limit is where the services and pipework run, so it helps to know where they are.
How far from the pool should trees go?
Far enough that roots stay clear of the shell and pipework and leaves miss the water, which usually means several metres for anything large. Ask for distances against the species being proposed.
Where to start
Photograph the pool area from the house and from the far side, note what the surround is made of now, and say whether the pump room is reachable. Send it through and several companies can price the same area, or read what landscaping costs on Mallorca for the other job types alongside this one.
