What does garden maintenance cost in Mallorca?

Keeping a medium Mallorca garden, roughly 200 to 500 m², in regular care runs about €2,500 to €3,500 a year. A small garden sits nearer €1,500 to €2,100 and a large one €4,200 to €6,000. What moves the figure is not the lawn but the irrigation, the hedges and how often anyone needs to be there.

What does a maintenance visit include?

A routine visit is mostly the same list everywhere on the island: cutting and edging what grows, pruning what needs it that month, checking the irrigation is actually reaching the plants, clearing the beds, and taking the green waste away. The proportions shift through the year. Spring is growth, high summer is water, autumn is pruning and planting, winter is structure.

The part owners tend to undervalue is the irrigation check. A blocked dripper is invisible until the plant it feeds is dead, and in July that takes about a fortnight.

How much does maintenance cost by garden size?

Those are figures for a garden at a standard level of finish. A garden built to a higher specification costs more to keep: clipped hedging, specimen trees and cut-stone detail all need hands rather than a machine.

What makes one quote higher than another?

A garden with automatic irrigation and nobody watching it is a garden that fails quietly: a stuck valve, a tripped timer or a burst line does its damage while the owner is elsewhere. A visit schedule catches those while they are still adjustments rather than replanting.

For holiday rentals the argument is different again. The garden is part of what guests are paying for, and the work has to fit around changeovers rather than around the gardener. That is a scheduling constraint, and it shows up in the price.

What about the first year after a new garden?

New planting needs more attention than established planting, not less: watering adjusted as roots take, replacements for anything that fails, and a first proper prune. A year of care after a build typically runs €2,500 to €3,500 for a medium garden, and it is easier to budget for while the build is being quoted than as an afterthought six months later.
