Artificial Grass in Mallorca
Artificial grass solves a real problem here, and creates a different one. Tell us the area, the aspect and how the space gets used, and we pass the request to companies that lay it on the island.

Where it works here, and where it gets too hot
The case for it on Mallorca is water. A lawn that stays green through August is close to the highest water use in any garden on the island, and it is the first thing a municipality restricts in a dry summer. Artificial grass removes that argument entirely, along with the mowing.
The case against it is heat. In full sun a synthetic surface runs far hotter than the air around it, hot enough to be uncomfortable underfoot in the middle of a July afternoon, which is exactly when a family wants to be outside. That is the single fact worth knowing before anyone quotes, and it is why the same product is a good decision on a shaded courtyard and a poor one on an open south facing plot.
So the aspect decides it. Shaded courtyards, roof terraces where weight and irrigation are both awkward, narrow side returns and pool surrounds under planting all suit it. Large open lawns in full sun usually do not, and there the honest comparison is against a warm season grass or one of the alternatives to grass rather than against a ryegrass lawn nobody was going to water anyway.
What an artificial grass request usually covers
- Lifting whatever is there now and taking it away
- Excavation to the depth the build up needs
- A compacted sub base that will not settle unevenly
- A laying course and a weed membrane
- Pile height and colour chosen for the aspect
- Joins and seams placed where they will not be seen
- Edge restraint so the perimeter stays put
- Sand infill and brushing to lift the pile
- Drainage, which matters more here than in a wetter climate
- Cut ins around trees, planting and pool copings
How your request reaches a company
Mallorca Landscapers is a comparison service. A request for artificial grass goes to the landscaping companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.

Does artificial grass get too hot on Mallorca?
In full sun it does get uncomfortably hot underfoot in high summer. In shade or partial shade it stays reasonable. This is the question worth settling before anything else, because it decides whether the product suits your plot at all.
How long does it last here?
Ultraviolet light is the limit rather than wear on most Mallorcan plots, so the fibre and its UV stabilisation matter more than the traffic the area gets. Ask each company how long it expects the product to hold its colour in this light, and to put that in writing with the quote.
Does it need any maintenance?
Less than a lawn, not none. It wants brushing to keep the pile up, leaf and debris clearance, and an occasional rinse. Under pines and near a pool it needs more attention than a brochure suggests.
Can it go over an existing lawn or on a roof terrace?
Laying straight onto old turf is what causes the settling and drainage problems people complain about later. On a roof terrace it is often the practical answer, and there the build up has to suit the waterproofing and the loading, which is a question for the company quoting.
