A realised garden design on Mallorca: gravel court, clipped cypress, a stone rill and wide limestone steps

Landscape and Garden Design in Mallorca

A design turns a plot into something a builder can price and a plant can survive in. Describe what you want from the space and we pass the brief to design led landscaping companies on Mallorca, who come back to you with their own proposals and fees.

What a design has to solve on this island

Most plots here work against the gardener before a single plant goes in. Heat sits above thirty degrees for weeks at a time, the rain arrives in autumn in short heavy bursts, and the soil across much of the island is thin, alkaline and full of limestone. A layout drawn for a northern European garden tends to fail quietly in its second summer.

A design that holds up starts from the site rather than from a style. Which parts fall into shade by four in the afternoon, where the wind arrives from, how water leaves the plot when eighty millimetres land in a morning, and what the neighbouring pines will do to the light in five years.

That reasoning is what a design fee buys. What you should end up holding is a plan you can build from and a budget band you can test against more than one company. If you are still working out which trade you need, landscaper, gardener or landscape architect sorts that out, and what a design plan costs gives the fee ranges by plot size.

What a design request usually covers

Not every job needs all of it. This is the list the companies tend to work through, so you can see what you are being quoted for.

  • A measured survey of the plot and its levels
  • Sun, shade and prevailing wind through the year
  • Soil condition and how the ground drains
  • A planting plan matched to the water actually available
  • Layout of terraces, paths and steps
  • Irrigation zones drawn before anything is planted
  • Lighting positions marked while cabling is still easy
  • Local planning and community rules that apply to the plot
  • A build sequence and a realistic budget band

How your request reaches a company

Mallorca Landscapers is a comparison service. A request for a garden design goes to the landscaping companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.

  1. 01

    Describe the job

Tell us the property, roughly what you want and where it is. Photographs and a rough plan help, though neither is required.

  2. 02

    We match it

The request goes to companies that work in your area and take on this kind of job at this size.

  3. 03

    They quote you

Each company contacts you directly with its own price, timing and approach. We do not set any of it.

  4. 04

    You compare and choose

Put the quotes side by side and take the one you want, or none of them. Using the site costs you nothing.

What usually follows a design

Garden construction

The build stage, from groundworks to the finished terrace.

Planting and plant sourcing

Getting the plants on the plan into the ground and keeping them alive.

Irrigation systems

The watering the planting plan assumes, laid out before the surfaces go down.

Do I need a design before asking for quotes?

For a small job, no. For anything that moves levels, water or structures, a plan is what makes two quotes comparable, because without one each company is pricing a slightly different garden.

Who owns the drawings?

That is between you and the company that produces them, and it is worth agreeing in writing before the work starts. Some firms credit the design fee against the build and some do not.

How long does a design take?

It depends on the size of the plot and how many rounds of changes you want. Ask each company for its own timeline when it quotes, since we do not set them.

Can I use a design drawn abroad?

You can, though expect it to need reworking. Plant choices and watering assumptions made for a northern climate rarely survive a Mallorcan summer unchanged.
