What poolside planting must not do
Plants beside a pool are picked for what they will not drop, will not spike and will not mind chlorinated splash. Bougainvillea looks perfect and sheds constantly. Agave and yucca look right and sit badly next to bare feet. Oleander, myrtle, dwarf olive and clipped westringia end up doing most of the real work.
Surfaces are chosen the same way. Pale, textured, and cool enough to cross barefoot at three in the afternoon, with a fall that takes splash away from the house rather than towards it.
Then there is the machinery. Pumps and filters need access and they make noise, so the plant room and the route to it should be settled before planting closes it off.
