Privacy Hedging in Mallorca

Most privacy problems on Mallorca are solved at one specific height, seen from one specific seat. Tell us what you are trying to screen and we pass it to companies that plant and maintain hedging in your area.

Decide the sightline before the species

A hedge chosen before anyone has sat down and looked usually ends up either too low to work or so tall it takes the view and the light with it. Working out where the overlooking actually comes from often shows that a short section of dense planting, or a single well placed tree, does what a full boundary hedge was going to do at several times the cost.

After that the choice is set by conditions. Near the sea, salt and wind rule out most of the fast growers and leave pittosporum, tamarisk, myoporum and juniper doing the work. Inland the palette opens up and cypress, laurel and viburnum become realistic.

Speed is the trade off nobody escapes. A screen that fills in one season needs water and clipping forever, while a slower evergreen costs more at planting and less every year after that. Oleander is the usual fast answer here, and it needs a particular kind of pruning to stay dense rather than leggy, which is covered in cutting back oleander.

What a screening request usually covers

  • Working out the sightlines that actually matter
  • Species chosen for salt, wind and soil on your plot
  • Instant screening with larger stock where it is justified
  • Trellis, wires or panels where planting alone is too slow
  • Irrigation to the hedge line
  • Ground preparation along the boundary
  • A trimming cycle to keep the shape
  • Neighbour and community rules on height

How your request reaches a company

Mallorca Landscapers is a comparison service. A request for privacy planting goes to the landscaping companies on our list; they quote the work and carry it out, and any agreement is between you and the company you pick.

  1. 01

    Describe the job

Tell us the property, roughly what you want and where it is. Photographs and a rough plan help, though neither is required.

  2. 02

    We match it

The request goes to companies that work in your area and take on this kind of job at this size.

  3. 03

    They quote you

Each company contacts you directly with its own price, timing and approach. We do not set any of it.

  4. 04

    You compare and choose

Put the quotes side by side and take the one you want, or none of them. Using the site costs you nothing.

How tall can a hedge be?

That depends on your municipality and, in a community, on its own statutes. It is worth checking before planting rather than after, and the company quoting can usually tell you what is normal locally.

How fast will a new hedge close up?

Anything from one season to four, depending on species, stock size and water. Ask each company what its quote assumes, since that assumption is most of the price difference.

Is a wall cheaper than a hedge?

Over ten years, often yes. Over one year, usually not. A wall also needs permission where a hedge frequently does not, so the answer is rarely only about money.
